A youth belonging to the Maru Kansara Soni community, residing in Madhapar of Bhuj taluka, has prepared a Ram Darbar artwork using Rogan painting, which will be sent to Ayodhya. In the past, when Prime Minister Modi visited Bhuj, a picture of this artwork was presented to him as a gift.

Centuries-old Rogan art, dating back to the time of Lord Buddha, has today become the most famous handicraft of Kutch. Ashish Kansara acquired the knowledge of Rogan art from grandfather during his childhood. For the past five years, Ashishbhai has started practicing Rogan work on a large scale. Blouses, ghagras, sarees, and dupattas made with Rogan art by Ashishbhai are popular today in places like Patan and Visnagar.

The main traditional motif of Rogan art is the ‘Tree of Life’ (Kalpavriksha), but the unique specialty of Ashishbhai’s craftsmanship is that he imprints portraits of gods and goddesses onto cloth using Rogan art. This is highly difficult and requires fine, intricate craftsmanship. He has masterfully created the Ram Darbar portraits using Rogan art.

Ashishbhai Kansara is the sole artist from his community in Madhapar village practicing Rogan art. He kept the art alive even through a life full of struggles, remaining completely absorbed in the craft with immense patience, proving the adage that “the fruits of patience are sweet.”

The Ram Darbar artwork created by him using Rogan art will be offered to the Ram Mandir, where it will remain permanently. This is a matter of great pride for the Maru Kansara Soni community.
