Rogan painting is an ancient art with three unique styles. The first style is known as Rogan Chhap, which is the traditional method of Rogan painting. The second style is called Nirmika Rogan Chhap, also referred to as Nirmika Rogan printing. The third style is Varnika Rogan Chhap, or Varnika Rogan painting. Among these, Rogan Chhap is the most popular today. Many artists in Madhapar, Kutch, Gujarat, create beautiful works in this traditional style.
The other two styles, Nirmika Chhap and Varnika Chhap, are rare and highly special. Only Ashish Kansara, an artist from Madhapar, practices these unique techniques. He (Ashish Kansara) is the only artist skilled in all three styles of Rogan painting, preserving this incredible art form.
How is Varnika Rogan Chhap Done?
First, the base design is created using a single color of Rogan paste. The artist draws freehand, similar to Rogan Chhap, but the fabric is not folded. This means the design stays on one side of the fabric and is not symmetrical.
Once the base design is ready, more colors are added on top of it. Brushes are used to paint these extra details. To make the design more beautiful, materials like glitter powder, mica, or zari are sometimes added.
After completing the design, the fabric is placed in the sunlight to dry. This step helps to set the colors and keeps the design fresh and vibrant.
Why Choose Varnika Rogan Chhap?
This is perfect for special occasions and festivals. The extra colors and decorations make it look grand and eye-catching. This style is often used for festive clothing, wall hangings, and other decorative items.
